Efforts to form a new government continue after the elections held on May 12 in Iraq after official results were announced on August 9. A new formula has been proposed for the next government.

The Sairun coalition under Shia Leader Muqtada Al Sadr and the Fetih Coalition under Hadi Amiri, the founder of Hashd al Shaabi, have come to an agreement for the new government, and will be announcing the group they have formed together with the Kurds in three days, reports say.

According to several articles in Iraqi press on Sunday, the Sairun Coalition, Fetih Coalition, Iraqi Force Coalition, Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) came to an agreement to form a coalition namd National Space.

Fetih Coalition MP Abbas Zamili said they are at the end of the efforts to form the biggest group in parliament and added: “There will be a coalition government. The Kurds’ constitutional rights will be instated. Kurds’ rights will form part of the coalition.”

Discussions have begun on how such a government would affect the back and forth between the US and Iran.

According to claims making the rounds in Baghdad’s back corridors, Prime Minister Haydar Abadi won’t be in the new government. Former PM Nuri Maliki’s name is among those cited for the post.

According to lobby information, Muqtada Sadr asked Hadi Amiri to declare the Iraqi PM Candidate in the coming days.

KDP-PUK WILL DETERMINE THE ROADMAP

A joint committee from the KDP and PUK have been holding meetings in Baghdad and will be organizing a meeting on Monday with officials from both parties and a roadmap will be decided in this meeting.

Efforts to form a government in Iraq and how the parties will participate in it will be determined in the meeting in Hewler. The parties will also discuss which Shia bloc to support for the government.

The parties will also discuss the Kurdistan parliamentary elections to be held on September 30.
