Nine people including a baby evacuated from Sur arrested

9 more people evacuated from Amed's central Sur district in recent days have been remanded in custody.

9 more people evacuated from Amed's central Sur district in recent days have been remanded in custody.

Legal procedures have been finalized for 19 people who were evacuated from Sur recently after suffering continuous bombardment on their neighborhoods for days. These include 8 children who were similarly detained and referred to prosecutor's office after the evacuation. While 7 children were released on conditions of “judicial control”, 12 people including a baby were referred to a court with a demand for their arrest. 9 of these were remanded in custody for alleged “membership to an illegal organisation” and “changing the constitutional order by use of arms”, while 3 were released on conditions of “judicial control”.

The names of those arrested are; 17 years old M.Ç., Remziye Tosun, DBP Bağlar district co-chair Reyhan Kavak, Ümit Özkan, Deniz Ataş, Bedri Oğuz, Cengiz Abiş, Emine Abiş, Mehmet Can Alpaydinci.

Remziye Tosun's 1,5 year-old baby Beritan Tosun will also be jailed together with her mother. Due to an ongoing imprisonment of her husband, Tosun's other 6 children were handed over to the Society for the Protection of Children.

The first group of 5 people evacuated from Sur on 19 February had also been detained and later jailed, including DIHA reporter Mazlum Dolan. A civilian and wounded woman by the name of Fatma Ateş whom the group tried to carry to an ambulance had died soon after their evacuation.
