At least nine soldiers were killed in guerrilla actions on Turkish occupation forces in the Xakurke region of the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).
According to the statement published by the Press Centre of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) on Saturday, a Turkish position at Girê Kevortê was destroyed on March 27, leaving two soldiers dead.
Two days later, a military vehicle involved in a Turkish army operation in the vicinity of Girê Lêlikan and Girê Şehîd Şervan was struck by guerrillas. The vehicle was completely destroyed and four soldiers were killed.
On March 30, a Turkish army unit on the Girê Lêlikan was struck by guerrillas with heavy weapons. Three soldiers were killed in the action and one position was destroyed.
Attacks by the Turkish army on guerrilla areas
The HPG also provided information on airstrikes and other developments in the Medya Defense Zones. Accordingly, the area of Kurê Jahro in the Zap region was bombed by Turkish fighter jets on March 28. Helicopter movements took place over the Mervanos and Şehîd Dilgêş areas in Avaşîn on March 29. On the same day, attack helicopters attacked the Kela Bêdewê area in the Zap region, while the Kurê Jahro and the Kunîşka and Sîda areas in Zap were bombed by combat aircraft.
Between March 27 and 29, two airstrikes were carried out on each of the areas surrounding the village of Baz and Girê Hakkari in Metîna. Helicopters were observed on the Qaşûra line in Metîna on March 29, at the same time, attack helicopters bombed the area around Kela Qumriye and Hiror, and fighter jets bombed Girê Ortê. In addition, troop reinforcement has taken place in the Girê Azad, Girê Şehîd Çiya and Girê Mîlîtan areas with transport helicopters.
On March 31, three airstrikes targeted the areas of Berbizina and the Girê Şehîd Hêmîn in Xakurke. In the evening, the Mervanos and Şehîd Dilgêş areas in Avaşîn were bombed by attack helicopters.
On April 1, artillery shells were fired from Turkish border posts at Girê FM in the Zap region. On the same day, three airstrikes each took place on Girê Hakkari in Metîna and Kurê Jahro in the Zap.
