No news is available yet regarding the aftermath of nine internationalist fighters of the YPG who were detained by KDP near Hewlêr while on their way from Rojava back to home.
According to reports, nine foreign volunteers that have been fighting ISIS in the ranks of the YPG in Rojava for a while crossed into Southern Kurdistan to go back home from Rojava but they were arrested by KDP asayish (public security) near Hewlêr. There is no legal basis nor reason for this "detention" practice by the KDP.
Speaking to ANF on the matter, PYD Southern Kurdistan Representative Xerîb Hiso stated that nine internationalist fighters were taken into custody at the Kelek asayish point near Hewlêr.
Hiso said they couldn't learn about the reason for the detentions, saying; "These people were in Rojava for a human duty against ISIS savagery. We learned on Thursday that they had been detained three days ago. It is not disclosed why they were detained, and we do not know whether they have been released or not."
Voicing concerns over the situation, Hiso said; "We communicated with the families of the internationalist fighters through the consulates of their countries. They were not aware of this incident either. We do not know if they have been released or sent back to Rojava."
The foreign YPG volunteers detained by KDP are: Callum Ross (Rizgar Çiya), Ozgan Ozdil (Dêrsim Agir), Anthonî Degatto (Rustem Fist), Justin Schnepp (Şervan Agir), Mirko Bruna (Mirko Cûdî) from Italy, Paola Andolina (Azadî Raperîn) from Italy, Damien Rodriguez (Şêrzad Azad) from the US, Fernando Sanches Grassa (Çiya Azadî) from Spain.
