Armed attack by police in two neighborhoods of Van has left a youth dead another wounded.

Police forces blockaded Şehit Fırat neighborhood of Van's central Edremit district as of early evening hours. While police opened random fire on the people, inhabitants built up barricades and started carrying out self-defense.

As the armed attack got heavier in the following hours, a 18-year-old youth by the name of Vedat Balık lost his life as a result of fire opened by police.

Sounds of arms and bombs are heard from the neighborhood.

On the other hand, police and special operation teams similarly blockaded the Xaçort (Hacıbekir) neighborhood of central İpekyolu district. The random fire opened by police left a 20-year-old youth by the name of Mahsun İlkaş wounded by a bullet in the stomach. He was taken to hospital by the inhabitants of the neighborhood where power has been cut off as people carry out self-defense.

Police forces have in the meantime blockaded the entrance-exit points of the neighborhood with armored vehicles. There is also an intense activity of helicopters over the area.

A huge explosion has occurred as a police vehicle attempted to enter the neighborhood.
