Peace Mothers will take to the streets tomorrow to protest the isolation imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan. The mothers call on the people to give voice to their demand.
Peace Mothers who have been fighting for peace in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan for years, voicing their demand at every opportunity across the country, ranging from human shield actions to demonstrations in front of the Parliament, are now preparing for a sit-in at Amed’s Koşuyolu Park at 16:00 Tuesday afternoon.
As the absolute isolation imposed by the Turkish state on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan continues, Peace Mothers will protest the denial of communication and visit to the Kurdish leader who is jailed in High Security Prison on İmralı Island, and against the single-type uniform imposition for prisoners.
Speaking to ANF, Peace Mother Seher Gülenç stated that the Turkish state’s rejection of Öcalan’s efforts and approach towards the ‘resolution process’ manifested the approach to the Kurdish people. She said: “I condemn the aggravated isolation on Öcalan. What is being done has nothing to do with justice, and it is an effort to punish, intimidate and suppress the Kurdish people.
Regarding the single-type uniform practice for prisoners, Gülenç said: “This is a torture method and we have to unite if we want to stop it.”
Pointing out the state of emergency and statutory decrees, Peace Mother Halise Albay stressed that the state seeks to intimidate the Kurdish people, saying: “We have faced countless massacres and cases of atrocity at the hands of the state for years, but we did never bow down. The isolation on leader Apo and the policy of enforced single-type uniforms for prisoners must stop at once.”
Halise Albay called on everyone that opposes the state of emergency and statutory decrees to join them in their demonstration on Tuesday in order to defeat injustice together.
