In Southern Kurdistan, a dangerous situation has arisen due to the deployment of military units of the KDP (Kurdistan Democratic Party) in Zinê Wertê. As it is possible to control the guerrilla area in the Qandil Mountains from this location, the PKK sees the KDP’s military movements coordinated with the Turkish state as a reason for war.
A demonstration was held in the borough of Binarê Qandil on this occasion on Monday. The participants chanted "Bimre xiyanet" (Down with betrayal) and "Bijî yekîtiya gelê Kurd" (Long live the unity of the Kurdish people) and marched from the building of the People's Council to the village of Zergelê.
A statement read out here in protest against a Kurdish fratricidal war and the Turkish occupation ambitions, said the following:
"The enemies of the Kurdish people have always benefited from the Kurdish fragmentation. They have drawn from it the strength to prevent the Kurds from living an independent life. Bought traitors have led to great suffering among the Kurdish people. While the whole world is now fighting against the Corona pandemic, the KDP is provoking a fratricidal war and allowing itself to be instrumentalised for the plans of the Turkish state. The attacks on Maxmur and Shengal and the spilled blood of the guerrillas are the result of this instrumentalisation.
Dispatching heavy weapons to a safe place like Zinê Wertê is a war preparation, which is part of the Turkish state's occupation plan. The same scenario has taken place in Bradost and Behdinan in 2018 and 2019. Dozens of civilians have lost their lives and hundreds of villages have been destroyed.
As the people of Binarê Qandil, we are against a fratricidal war. Zinê Wertê is a safe place. There is no reason to station heavy weapons there. We appeal to all political circles in Kurdistan, to human rights organisations and to all Kurdish people to resist the Turkish state’s plans to occupy Qandil. We will never accept occupation and we will defend our land."
