Turkish police prevented the people from Amed, Siirt and Batman from marching to Amara in order to participate in the celebration of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan’s birthday.

People objected to the state forces’ prevention, and have issued a press release as they were waiting outside of Amara. Ramazan Dengiz, the DBP district Co-President from Bağlar, Amed, spoke on behalf of the people and said that their most democratic right of celebrating the birthday of Öcalan was being violated as state forces prevent their entrance to Amara. Dengiz noted that they would continue to struggle and celebrate Öcalan’s birthday not only in Amara but also in other parts of Kurdistan.

Police officers detained more than 60 people after the press release, and took them to the Anti-Terror Police Branch in Siverek. Below are the names of some of the detainees:
