Tens of thousands of people headed to Batıkent Newroz Square for Newroz celebrations held in Amed this year with the slogan “Victory through resistance” have sarted fill the square.

People of Amed who have been resisting the tank, artillery and heavy weaponry attacks of the tens of thousands of police and army members in line with the martial law applications of the state forces greet Newroz with the spirit of resistance. Amed residents of all ages, who took to the streets in the early hours for the Newroz rally to be held in Amed Batıkent Newroz Square, used the Metropolitan Municipality’s public transport and their own means to get to the square. Young people marched in line and walked to the square with slogans such as “YPS is here, where is Esedullah?” and “Biji Berxwedana Sur’e”. A group of young people who came to the square on horseback were met with great enthusiasm.

Women are on the frontlines this year, as every other year, with their traditional national garments and green, yellow and red colors. Photographs of civilians murdered by the state in Cizre and Silopi have been put up around the Newroz square where the young chant slogans of resistance, as well as PKK pioneers like Mazlum Doğan, Kemal Pir, Zilan (Zeynep Kınacı) and the martyrs of Newroz.

While the “Diren Diyarbekir (Resist Diyarbekir)” song fills the square, the most prominent slogan is “Biji Serok Apo”, like in the years before. Whenever the music stops, tens of thousands of people chant “Biji Serok Apo” in unison and move on to other slogans.

The arrivals of tens of thousands of people continue, guests are also taking their place in the protocol area.
