People of Cizre are rushing to the ballots in order to cast their vote despite the siege in the district which was destroyed during the attacks of state forces under the name of curfew. Nearly 300 people were killed during the five consecutive periods of a curfew.
Many voters stay in schools for ballot box security after they vote as police forces have besieged the city center and school buildings with armored vehicles and are trying to obstruct voters who have formed long lines in order to vote.
SIEGE AND OPEN VOTING IMPOSITION
Police forces are subjecting voters to search and criminal record check at school entrances and several people have been detained by ballot boxes. Special operations police travel to polling stations in armored vehicles and cast vote in their work attires, which has received the criticism of observers from the HDP.
AKP district chair Cihan Güven and his relatives forced the voters in Zêwik (Ulaş) village to cast their votes openly. HDP Şırnak Parliamentarian Leyla Birlik therewith went to the village and intervened the situation as she also cast her vote here.
FAMILIES: LET'S GO TO THE BALLOTS
Emine Çağırga, mother of Cemile Çağırga who was massacred during the curfew and whose body was kept in a refrigerator for days, and Esmer Tunç, mother of Cizre Self-Administration Co-president Mehmet Tunç, called upon everyone to go to the ballots and cast their vote today.
The number of voters in Cizre and its villages increased 4 thousands more in comparison to the previous election and reached 70,433 who will be casting votes at 200 ballot boxes today.
