People of Shengal march to protest the 73rd genocide

Hundreds of Êzidîs staged a march on the occasion of the Shengal genocide's 3rd anniversary. Êzidîs who wanted to join the march from Southern Kurdistan were obstructed by the KDP.

To mark the 3rd anniversary of the genocide of 3 August 2014 on the Êzidî community, hundreds of people in Shengal gathered in Kolka village from where they started to march towards the town center with chants of slogans.

During the march, banners were held high reading "Shengal's autonomy is the revenge of the Êzidî women", "Shengal will only be free by autonomy", "Silence strengthens treason", "Organisation of Êzidî women will secure the autonomous rule of Shengal" and "The Autonomous Council of Shengal is the answer to 73 genocide".

The marching people carried alongside posters of Kurdish People's leader Abdullah Öcalan, flags of the Autonomous Council of Shengal, Shengal Resistance Units (YBŞ), Shengal Women's Units (YJŞ) and Freedom and Democracy Party of Êzidîs (PADÊ), also pictures depicting scenes from the 3 August genocide.

After the mass reached the building of the Democratic Autonomy Council of Shengal in the center of the town, a minute of silence was held in commemoration of the martyred victims of 73rd genocide and the martyrs of Shengal's resistance.

Following the minute of silence, speeches were held on behalf of Freedom and Democracy Party of of Êzidîs (PADÊ), Democratic Autonomy Council of Shengal, Executive Council of Shengal, Amûdê Êzidî Center, as well as institutions and organisations from Rojava Kurdistan and Northern Syria.

The Êzidîs that wanted to cross into Shengal from Southern Kurdistan to join the march, were obstructed by KDP forces in Sinune city with gunshots into the sky.
