People of Shengal remember victims of the genocide

4 years ago today, ISIS carried out a genocide against the Yazidi Kurds in Shengal, southern Kurdistan.

Residents of Shengal held a march in memory of the people who lost their lives in the genocidal ISIS attacks of August 3, 2014 on the fourth anniversary of the genocide.

The march with torches held for the fourth anniversary of the genocidal attacks called the Shengal Firman started on Thursday night. The march led by the Yazidi Youth Union (YCÊ) started from the Mosul Plains in the Amûd region and continued to the Serdesht region.

The youth marched with YBŞ (Shengal Resistance Units) and YJŞ (Shengal Women's Units) flags for hours, and frequently chanted “Bijî berxwedana Şengalê” (Long Live Shengal Resistance).

Hundreds of people gathered in front of the municipality in the Serdesht region at 09.00 this morning to march to the Democratic Autonomous Assembly of Shengal campus. The group including HDP, KCD, DBP and TJA committees from Northern Kurdistan will hold a press statement after the march.

HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) Batman MP Feleknas Uca and Christian, Assyrian and Chaldean committees for the soon-to-be-declared Shengal General Assembly are to participate in the memorial.
