Members of the Free Women’s Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad, TJA) and No Demolition in Sur Platform are paying solidarity visits to Amed’s historic Sur district where residents of Alipaşa and Lalebey neighborhoods are resisting against the demolition of their houses by the state, deprived of electricity and water supply already.
Women in the demolished neighborhoods state that police deployed in their living area are threatening them, and hitting their houses with a scoop when they are inside their homes.
“They want us to evacuate our house till Monday. Everyone should mount resistance against the ongoing demolition in Sur. We are resisting for months to not get removed out of our homes by use of force and threats. Conscientiously and morally, everyone should give a voice to this scream.”
60 years old woman Azize Akay who is one of the residents resisting the demolition for months, continues to sell sunflower seeds amid the ongoing devastation of their living area. Akay says; “We will not leave Sur for the lives of our own and our grandchildren. I will keep selling sunflower seeds and struggle for them.”
