People returning to their homes in Hesekê

A ceasefire was declared on the 8th day after 7 days of intense clashes in Hesekê and people have started returning to their homes following the clashing parties’ agreement on 5 points.

Hesekê Asayish forces declared Hesekê was fully secured and called on the residents to return to their homes in a written statement following the declaration of the ceasefire. Hesekê streets are waking up again as people return and open their shops.

In Hesekê clashes that started on August 16 when regime forces attacked, the people had to leave their homes after tanks, mortars, artilleries and jet fighters bombed the city. As a result of arbitrary bombing of Hesekê center, 20 civilians including women and children lost their lives.

HESEKÊ ASAYISH: THE CITY IS SAFE, RETURN TO YOUR HOMES

Hundreds of people had relocated to safe zones of the Cizîr Canton through the corridor opened by YPG, YPJ and Asayish forces to avoid further harm to people in Xiwêran and Neshwa neighborhoods that saw the most intense clashes for 7 days. Hesekê Asayish forces addressed the residents of Xiwêran and Neshwa Sherki neighborhoods in their written statement and said: “Hesekê is fully secured, all residents, especially those of Xiweran and Neshwa Sharki neighborhoods can return to their homes.”

People of Hesekê are glad regime forces and YPG, Asayish and HPC have reached a ceasefire and agreed on 5 points on the 8th day of fighting, and say: “We don’t want paramilitary forces like Difa Watani that continuously create provocations to disrupt the peace anymore”.

People of Hesekê point out that regime forces abandoned the city to gangs when ISIS attacked on June 25 and send a message to the regime: “We don’t want to live under a force that doesn’t protect us when there is need.”

Hesekê residents hope fighting doesn’t start again and say they will come together as Kurds, Arabs, Assyrians and other peoples, and build Hesekê’s self defense and self government in assemblies and communes.
