The Iraqi army ambushed fighters of the Shengal Resistance Units (YBŞ) last night, wounding three of them.
Following the attack, Iraqi troops blockaded the city center and deployed tanks and heavy weapons on every street.
According to reports from the ground, hundreds of soldiers and police were deployed to the region. Entrances and exits to the city were closed.
In the early morning of March 19, the residents of Shengal started resistance against the army.
Prevented at the checkpoint of Iraqi forces in Amud between Shengal and Chilmêra, the people overcame the obstacle and reached the city center.
The residents, led by women and young people organized in the Shengal People's Assembly, first went to the Yarmouk (Hey Yarmouk) neighborhood where YBŞ fighters were attacked and expressed their reaction with slogans.
The crowd then headed to Emin al-Weteni neighborhood where they were confronted by a blockade but managed to overcome it.
