Pervin Buldan: Technical communication established with Öcalan at the PKK Congress

Pervin Buldan, a member of the DEM Party İmralı Delegation, stated that “probably technical communication” had been established with Abdullah Öcalan at the 12th PKK congress, but did not provide any details.

Earlier today, the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) announced that the 12th congress of the party was successfully held in the Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) between 5 and 7 May. The congress was conducted in two different areas in parallel with delegates representing all branches of the party.

Speaking to the Mesopotamia Agency (MA), Pervin Buldan, a member of the İmralı Delegation of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), described the PKK congress as “historic.” Buldan noted that AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan would make a statement on the matter.

Pervin Buldan stated: “We know that everyone was eagerly awaiting the date of the PKK congress. This congress was necessary for peace to come to Turkey and for democracy to take root in Turkey. In every meeting we had with Mr. Öcalan, he said that he considered this to be of historic importance in terms of supporting the peace process it would bring to Turkey.  He said it was necessary. May the PKK's announcement of the congress be auspicious for Turkey. From now on, the cornerstones of peace will be laid. Historic steps will be taken. There is a high probability that expectations will be met. That is why this must be attached historic importance. May it be auspicious for all of us.”

Asked whether Öcalan attended the congress, Pervin Buldan said: “Probably technical communication has been established. I don't want to go into too much detail because we have a long way to go. I think we need to be careful with our statements. I think we should not harm the process. That's why we have to be careful with our words until this process is completely successful. Considering the statement that has been made, it is likely that a more detailed statement will be made in the coming days. The congress has been held, but we expect a detailed statement in the coming days. However, this in itself is an important statement. I hereby would like to mention Sırrı Süreyya Önder in particular. I wish he could have seen this day. He made a great contribution. I am currently in Adıyaman on a condolence visit in his memory. We once again pray for his soul. We dedicate this to our Sırrı.”

Pervin Buldan stated that President Erdoğan would make a statement on the matter, adding, “They will also make a statement shortly. I do not wish to comment on this. However, I believe the President will make a statement shortly.”
