Following yesterday's offensive in Sur district of Amed, police have once again attempted to enter Fatih neighborhood this morning.

As police fired on the civilians, inhabitants of the neighborhood started carrying out self-defense against the attacks. Snipers have been positioned on high buildings across the neighborhood.

Police and special operation teams launched armed attacks on the people in Hasırlı and Fatihpaşa neighbourhoods after entering both neighbourhoods with a large number of armoured vehicles yesterday afternoon. Police forces had to retreat from the district in the late evening hours in the face of the strong resistance waged by the people.

Entering the Hasırlı neighbourhood with armoured vehicles, police forces first opened random fires around after which snipers were positioned on the roofs of high buildings. While snipers rained bullets on the houses, Turkish forces also opened fire on Kurşunlu Mosque in Fatihpaşa neighbourhood.

In the meantime, a delegation of representatives from the HDP, DBP, DTK and KJA, who kept waiting at Şêx Said square in Dağ Kapı during the attacks, entered the neighbourhoods to assess the situation at the scene following the retreat of the police forces.

Carrying out an examination in Hasırlı and Fatihpaşa neighbourhoods, HDP’s Amed deputy and party’s Amed branch co-chairs briefed the public about the incidents at Şêx Said Square.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, HDP Amed branch co-chair Ömer Önen said some dirty games were put into play in Sur district yesterday, and added that the attacks were launched to distress the Kurdish people even during the Eid.

Önen said attacks by Turkish forces aimed to create a perception as if there were problems in that area while there was none in fact. He added that the people will continue standing against these attacks.
