Father and sister of KJA activist Berjin Demirkaya, who was burned to death in one of the basements of atrocity in Cizre, taken into custody in a morning raid by soldiers.
KJA activist Berjin Demirkaya’s father Mevlüt Demirkaya and sister Mehtap Demirkaya were taken into custody in a morning raid by soldiers. Berjin Demirkaya was burned to death in one of the basements of atrocity in Şırnak's Cizre district.
Soldiers raiding KJA activist Berjin Demirkaya’s family home in Geçit Village in Tekman county took her father Mevlüt Demirkaya and sister Mehtap Demirkaya into custody yesterday morning. Soldiers, entering the village with the armored vehicles, took the father and sister saying they “had to give statements at the prosecutor’s office.”
Mehtap Demirkaya’s sister Münteha Demirkaya said their home was searched by the soldiers last Saturday as well and stated the following: “We were telephoned from the outpost and Mehtap was called in for questioning. They said they would come and take her themselves if she didn’t come. So my father and sister went to the Tekman Prosecutor’s Office last Monday. There, they were told they didn’t have anything to testify on. By coincidence, the outpost commander was there and he also said that it was a mistake and they didn’t have to testify. He even called the outpost when he was with my father and sister. Then he apologized to my father. So my father and sister came back to the village.”
“ISN’T IT ENOUGH THAT YOU BURNED MY SISTER?”
Demirkaya, stating that the soldiers came to the village after the funeral and asked questions like “Why did you let the body to be brought to the village? Why did you have her buried there? Was there a body in the coffin?” to some villagers and they were trying to pressure them, said “They already burned my sister, they tore her body apart. They gave us a small bag with pieces of bone inside. They made us go through enough pain. What else do they want to do?”
