Political genocide operations against Kurdish population and local administrators continue in line with the war policies of the AKP government  implemented in North Kurdistan territory.

Dozens of Kurdish politicians are detained on daily basis, and among these, many are remanded in custody. The operations specifically target the co-mayors of DBP-run municipalities in the Kurdish region in addition to DBP and HDP executives in many settlements.

In today’s operations, co-mayors of Van's Özalp district and Iğdır have been detained together with other DBP executives.

As police forces have today raided the municipality of Van's Özalp district, co-mayor Handan Bağcı and vice mayor Okan Bayram were taken into custody on grounds of an arrest warrant issued for them. Police reportedly continue a detailed search in the municipality.

IĞDIR

Within the scope of simultaneous raids in many houses in Tuzluca and Hoşhaber neighbourhoods of Iğdır, police forces detained co-mayor Şaziye Önder and eight other DBP executives this morning.

While the operation was reportedly carried out in relation with a human shield action, some of the detainees were taken to Gendarmerie Station in the city and the others to Tuzluca Police Department.
