The 8th curfew since March 13 has reached its 31st day in Mardin’s Nusaybin district. As intense clashes continue, the military and special operations units resorting to such incredible means like mortars and howitzers still can’t enter the Abdulkadirpaşa, Zeynelabidin, Kışla, Fırat, Dicle and Yenişehir neighborhoods where the popular resistance continues and they suffer losses daily, despite all their attack techniques.
Losses of state forces facing resistance from YPS and YPS-JIN members include high-ranking special operations units and soldiers such as bodyguards for former President Abdullah Gül, Salih Taç and Erkan Başpehlivan, Major Ahmet Karaman, Major Turgay Çelik, Police Special Operations Security Chief Zafer Kurt, Security Chief Doğan Sakarya, Mardin Anti-terror Unit Chief Gaffari Güneş. Several armored vehicles have exploded in actions by YPS and YPS-JIN members since the first day of the curfew.
News about the death of soldiers and police come daily in Nusaybin, where a state of siege was declared by passing the authority of the governor to high-ranking soldiers but that attempt has also failed. On the day of the stripping of authority from the governor, another special operations policeman was killed in the attack by YPS and YPS-JIN members. With the death of 2 soldiers last night, it is apparent that the state forces’ plan for Nusaybin has failed.
The attacks that have intensified after the President’s “Bomb them remotely if necessary” order are pushed back every day, and the provocative statement by MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli to “leave no stones standing, leave no heads on shoulders” does not seem to have worked.
The attacks in the district are getting more severe every day, with the sound of artillery and howitzers ever present. Hundreds of houses have been torn down with mortar fire. In the goal to evacuate the residents completely, houses are raided one by one and citizens are forcibly removed, while those who refuse to leave are facing ongoing attacks. The neighborhoods are randomly raked.
Cleaning personnel of Nusaybin Municipality Mehmet Pitek was killed on April 4. Pitek was 40 years old, had 4 children, and had gone out to smoke in his doorstep when he was killed with fire from an armored vehicle.
