Propaganda process postponed in Southern Kurdistan

The propaganda process that would have started today in the Kurdistan region has been postponed.

The propaganda process for parties and coalitions to run in the parliamentary elections to be held on September 30 in the Kurdistan region would have started today, but it has been postponed.

“PROPAGANDA PROCESS WILL START ON SEPTEMBER 11”

Kurdistan Region Independent Supreme Commission of Elections Spokesperson Sherwan Zirar said the decision to start the propaganda process on September 11 was taken by a majority of votes.

Conflict among political parties was reportedly the reason behind the delay.

KDP, Komeleya Islami and Nifshe Nû have previously made statements to hold the elections on time, while the Democracy and Justice Coalition and the Zehmetkeshan group announced that they would be boycotting the elections as they believe they won’t be held in a fair environment.

The Goran Movement, Yekgirtuya Islami and the PUK on the other hand want the elections to be postponed to a later date. Other parties are working to delay the elections through different means.

111 SEATS

Elections Commission Data Director Karwan Celal issued a statement yesterday and said, “Political parties and coalitions in Kurdistan can start their election propaganda for the 5th term of the parliament tomorrow.”

709 candidates had their applications accepted in 31 lists and coalitions for the Kurdistan Region Parliamentary Elections.

There are a total of 111 seats in the Kurdistan Parliament.
