The Neighborhood Council members in Kirkuk have protested the Iraqi government that hasn’t paid their salaries for months, with a press statement.
Many council members participated in the demonstration and demanded the government pay the salaries at once.
The protesters held signs that read, “Kirkuk Neighborhood Council has great responsibility but we are being wronged”, “We have martyrs and veterans but we have been deprioritized” and said they haven’t received their salaries in months.
“UNTIL OUR DEMANDS ARE MET”
Council members said the Iraqi government sends only three salaries each year, and that they each have over 50 months’ worth of salaries still unpaid.
The council members urged the government to pay the backlogged salaries at once and return to a regular payment schedule, adding that they will continue their protests until their demands are met.
