PUK MP: Turkey's attack on Shengal is a violation of laws

PUK parliamentarian Mahmut emphasized that the Turkish state’s attacks target all the Kurds, and said "It is necessary for the Kurdish people and politicians to struggle united against these attacks."

Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) parliamentarian Salar Mahmut stated that the Turkish state’s attack on Shengal and Rojava is "backstabbing those that fight terrorism. "

Speaking to ANF, Mahmut stated that the aim of the attack, which targets the gains of the Kurds, is to inflict another wound on Shengal before old wounds heal. PUK MP noted that the attacks also aim to undermine the struggle against ISIS in Raqqa and Tabqa, and called upon international powers to take a stand against the Turkish state.

"THE ATTACK TARGETS ALL KURDS"

PUK parliamentarian Mahmut remarked that the Turkish state pursues enmity towards the Kurds everywhere, and described the attack on Shengal as an intervention on Iraq’s sovereignty.

Mahmut said "The Turkish state deepened the wound of the Kurdish people by inflicting another wound on Shengal yet before the old wounds healed. By killing guerillas and peshmergas, it has shown that it is against the Kurds everywhere. No matter if it in North, South or East Kurdistan, it has shown that it is against the freedom of the Kurdish people everywhere."

"INTERNATIONAL LAWS HAVE BEEN VIOLATED"

Emphasizing that the Turkish state has violated international laws with its attacks, Mahmut called upon international powers to stand against this situation.

Mahmut said "As parliamentarians, we condemn these attacks that should also be seen as an attack on the referendum on Kurdistan’s independence and the flag of South Kurdistan. They opened a wound in the heart of the Kurdish people as Kurds wait for international powers to save Êzidî women and girls from ISIS. It is not possible for us to put up with these attacks. "

"IRAQI GOVERNMENT MUST FULFILL ITS RESPONSIBILITY"

PUK parliamentarian Salar Mahmut stated that the attacks also violate the independence of Iraq, and said the following:

"The Iraqi government and prime minister should bring up this issue to the international arena because what the Turkish state does in Shengal is inhumane. It is also a violation of international laws.

As parliamentarians, we believe that the discussion of this issue in the international arena is important for the future of South Kurdistan. Similarly, national relations should be established between South Kurdistan and Rojava immediately. The Turkish state uses one party to make Kurds accept its attacks. However, peshmergas and guerrillas fall as martyrs during the attacks. Therefore, this attack targets all the Kurds. We should not be fooled by these games. Those martyred there are the people defending the honor of Kurds and the freedom of Shengal. The Turkish state has committed a crime against all the Kurdish parties and people there."
