The Parties for Kurdish National Unity (PYNK) in Rojava issued a statement in Kobanê on the tensions in southern Kurdistan. Representatives of the parties and organizations united in the PYNK took part in the rally staged at the Free Women's Square on Tuesday. The joint statement was read out by PYD (Democratic Union Party) representative Bekir Hec Isa.
In the statement, the PYNK appealed to all political circles in South Kurdistan and especially to the Kurdistan regional parliament to prevent the threatening war between KDP (Kurdistan Democratic Party) and PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party). "The parliament of the Kurdistan Autonomous Region must fulfill its duty. Just like the Peshmerga, the guerrillas are a valuable national force," the statement said.
The PYNK statement pointed out that there is great concern about a further escalation of the tense situation: "Such a war serves the interests of the Turkish state exclusively. There is nothing to gain for the Kurdish people in this. We appeal to Nechirvan Barzani as president of the autonomous region of South Kurdistan to fulfill his national duty. In the interest of the Kurdish people, the achievements in all four parts of Kurdistan must be protected. A war would only serve Turkey. The Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) must also play its role well at this time and do everything possible to prevent an internal war."
