Racist attack on Kurdish workers in Erzurum

A group of Kurdish construction workers were attacked by a racist group in Erzurum. Pointing guns at the workers, the group injured two among them, while police detained two other workers.

A group of Kurdish construction workers from Van and Ağrı, working in a construction site in Gez neighbourhood of Yakutiye district of Erzurum were targeted by an armed attack by a group of racists late yesterday evening. The same workers had previously been attacked and threatened by racists and the owner of Bostancıoğlu Construction Company.

According to the reports from the site, the job holder Fuat, whose surname could not be obtained, came to the construction site and shouted at the workers, saying “You, the busters, are all Armenian”, “You, the terrorists”, “You do not deserve anything” and pointed a gun on them. As the workers reacted to the insulting words, a large group of racists attacked the workers, as a result of which two workers were injured and taken to the hospital.

The police forces units there were too late to intervene the scene seized the two rifles held by the racist group, and detained the job owner Fuat, his brother Cihat and two workers. The detainees have reportedly been taken to the Erzurum Police Department.
