Relatives of disappeared people meet in Amed

The story of Hasan Çiçek was told.

The Human Rights Association (IHD) Diyarbakır Branch executives and relatives of the forcibly disappeared people met for the 495th time in front of the Human Rights Monument in Koşuyolu Park.

Speaking at the weekly sit-in action, member of the IHD Disappeared Commission Adnan Örhan said that responsible of the so called 'murders committed by unknown persons' were not brought to justice even though they were known.

Örhan spoke of the need for a Truth Commission that should analyse these cases one by one.

"If we are talking about democracy and freedom, - he said - then the people responsible for these killings must be brought before the judiciary and punished. We repeat our call from here: You are obliged to expose them. The state must reveal these murders committed by the dark forces of the state".

Irfan Ekinci, İHD Diyarbakır Branch executive told the story of the Hasan Çiçek, who was living in Dereköy, linked to the village of Boydas, Dersim. He disappeared on 10 October 1994, after he was taken away from his house with the pretext of "showing the way" to soldiers.

"Hasan Çiçek - said Ekinci - was subjected to many threats when soldiers warned they would evacuate villagers. Hasan Çiçek, who did not leave the village, was taken from his home on 10 October 1994 under the pretext of 'showing the road' to soldiers.

Hasan's wife, Zeynep Çiçek, heard gunshots after her husband was taken away. From 10 October, she never heard from her husband again.

Çiçek went everywhere trying to establish what had happened to her husband. A month after the disappearance, Çiçek’s wife was told a body had been found. As it was not proved that it was indeed the body of Hasan, Çiçek was recorded as disappeared.

Ekincik stated that the case file was kept between courts for many years, and finally Zeynep Çiçek made an application in 1999, and Hozat Civil Court of First Instance declared Hasan Çiçek 'disappeared'.
