Reports of clash in Şemdinli following the murder of Turkish sergeant

Operation teams deployed across the entire district center with armored vehicles have reportedly started detentions after blocking the side streets and neighborhoods also.

Reports of clash are coming through from Şemdinli district of Hakkari in the wake of today's gun attack that left a sergeant dead.

While all the workplaces in the district have been shut down following the incident, special operation teams are opening random fire around and attacking houses.

Four people have reportedly been detained amidst the strict presence of security forces in the district.

On the other hand, a firefight has reportedly erupted between operational police teams and HPG guerrillas in the area of Beşevler two kilometers from the district center.

Tension remains high in the district as police continue opening random fire on the people around.

Co-mayor of Şemdinli, Seferi Yılmaz, who spoke to ANF on the incidents told that they heard gunshots from the Karşıyaka neighborhood, but had no information available who the sides engaged in fighting were.

Describing the situation in the district as “very tense”, Yılmaz said helicopters were flying over the district where people are waiting in tension and all shops have been closed.
