Despite the cold and the snow, the village started to get busy in the morning for the memorials. Families held photographs of their lost children and gathered in the village mosque.
Photographs of the 34 victims were put up in the mosque. The predominant sentiment in the village is pain and rage. Families hold on to each other and remember their children or relatives. They are waiting for the snow storm to subside to go visit the graves of the victims.
All events are held under the shadow of the soldiers. The regime has positioned large numbers of soldiers in the village before the memorials. There are checkpoints by the entrance of the village and the cemetery and the soldiers are conducting ID controls and searches.
Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Co-chair Pervin Buldan and several other MPs, NGO representatives and lawyers are attending the memorial services in the village today.
