Schools in Şırnak's Cizre district were used by Turkish military and police forces and AKP gangs as headquarters during the self-governance resistance. Many schools were later demolished as part of the total destruction and their plot were placed under “expropriation”. Those with low damage are on the other hand being reconstructed by TOKİ (Housing Development Administration of Turkey) now.
Five schools under construction in the area of İdil-Cizre road are expected to be completed by the end of the year. These schools are designed with the architecture of the military outposts in the region.
At the roofs of these schools that overlook the entire surrounding territory, the TOKİ has built watch towers, the same with those in the outposts. Reports suggest that police will be stationed in the watch towers at the roofs of these schools.
