Second MSD congress ends

The second Syrian Democratic Council congress ended. In its final declaration, the congress said “The war in Syria continues because of the mentality that profits from the crisis and the lack of a true representation of the will of Syrian peoples.”

The second Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) congress ended and the SDC issued its final declaration. In its final declaration, the congress stated the following:

“The second SDC congress took place on February 25, 2017 with the participation of 118 members and representatives from political and social organizations.

The roadmap and political document for the solution of the crisis in Syria were discussed and the council's internal workings have been improved during the congress. Participants approved the political document and stated that a military solution could not end the current crisis and Syria needs a political solution that includes internal dialogue.

There is still no solution in sight as the crisis in Syria enters its 7th year. This situation is caused by the mentality that profits from the crisis and the lack of a true representation of the will of Syrian peoples.

Again, the Syrian Democratic Council and other democratic forces in Syria have been prevented from joining international meetings due to Turkey's imposition, and these meetings fail to produce results because of the lack of democratic forces.

MSD 'S participation in these meetings is a necessity for the solution of the crisis in Syria and the construction of a democratic Syria.

No project other than the one proposed by the SDC and democratic forces considers the cultural and religious realities of the peoples living in Syria. The following steps should be taken for the solution of the crisis in Syria.

- Ending the war in Syria under international supervision.

- Release of prisoners by all powers.

- Implementation of a joint struggle against terrorism.

- Ending the Turkish state's attacks on Syrian soil.

- Ending the current blockade.

- Preparation for the return of immigrants and refugees.

We call upon the democratic forces in Syria to collaborate in order to liberate our lands and construct the federation project in order to protect the hopes and unity of peoples in Syria.

Participants of the congress stated that the Democratic Autonomous Administration's experience and federation projects is an example for the solution of the crisis in Syria. Îlham Ehmed and Sheikh Riyad Derar took roles in the congress as SDC Co-presidents. Moreover, members of the Political Council were elected during the congress.
At the end of the congress, participants saluted martyrs' families and SDF forces that have gained important victories.”
