ISIS mercenaries launched an attack on Shengal on 3 August 2014, to massacre the Yazidi people. These attacks, in which thousands of people were killed, detained or kidnapped, were defined as genocide by many parliaments and UN experts.
The Shengal Democratic Autonomous Assembly will organize a series of events as part of the 8th anniversary of the 3 August massacre.
The Assembly said in a statement: “We are entering the 8th anniversary of the massacre carried out by ISIS on 3 August 2022. In these 8 years, our people were able to organize themselves despite all the difficulties, resist the attacks and some of the refugees were able to return to their lands. What remains is to bring those responsible to justice. Now we have decided to work to ensure that."
