The Shengal Democratic Autonomous Council issued a written statement on the anniversary of the attack that took place on 3 March 2017.
The statement said: “On 3 March 2017, an attack was carried out against Shengal by using all kinds of weapons in order to liquidate the Democratic Nation system in Shengal.
With the 3 March 2017 attack, the KDP once again proved its hostility towards the Yazidi people. In the attack, the blood of 10 fighters, guerrillas and children was shed.
We commemorate all our martyrs once again in the person of the martyrs who resisted in Xanesor on 3 March 2017.”
The statement continued: “The martyrs of Xanesor made their lives a shield for a free life. Journalists were targeted so that the said attack would not be heard, and Nujihan Erhan was killed.
As it is known, it was the KDP itself that opened the way to the massacre. Since the day the autonomous life in Shengal was built, the KDP has been carrying out attacks against our people and leaders and wants to dominate Shengal again.
Just as they wanted to occupy Xanesor on 3 March 2017, they want to occupy Shengal today with the same methods. The targeting of our leading commanders such as Pîr Çeko, Agir Cefri and Şêrzad Shemo is not separated from the attack on 3 March 2017.
Regardless of what happens, the construction of our people's autonomous life and their claim to live in their own lands will continue. We have no choice but to resist. In order for this resistance to become stronger, our people must not play the games of the KDP.
Xanesor is a place where the people who migrated come back and where the Democratic Nation system developed in their hearts. This system, which started in Xanesor, has now spread all over Shengal and the people can govern and protect themselves.
Neither the KDP nor the invading Turkish state will be able to take over the will of our people with their dirty plans. There is the blood of our martyrs on every inch of Shengal's land. We will not give up the struggle of our martyrs and the construction of an Autonomous Shengal."
