Autonomous Administration of Shengal warns KDP over election fraud

Autonomous Administration of Shengal warned the KDP against manipulating Yazidi votes.

The Autonomous Administration of Shengal said in a statement that the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has turned the compensation owed to Yazidis, who were harmed during the era of the Saddam Hussein regime, into a tool for election propaganda.

It was claimed that the KDP has been collecting voter cards from the public by promising to deliver compensation payments, describing this as a deceptive election tactic aimed at misleading the people.

The administration called on the population to remain vigilant against such manipulation and to remember the role the KDP played during the 2014 genocide campaign.

KDP took most of the compensation

The statement noted that of the 25 million Iraqi dinars allocated by the Iraqi state as compensation for the damages suffered during the Saddam Hussein era, only 10 million would reach the people, while the rest had been seized by the KDP. The Autonomous Administration stressed that the KDP is now using the remaining compensation as an electoral bargaining chip, calling this unacceptable.

KDP cannot represent the Yazidi community

The statement emphasized that the KDP no longer holds any legitimate connection to the Yazidis. “We call on our people not to fall for the KDP’s schemes, to remember its role during the 2014 genocide, and to remain aware of what it did to Shengal through the October 9 Agreement. It must be known that the KDP has always acted based on self-interest and has never taken any step without expecting something in return. Therefore, the KDP cannot represent the Yazidi community. Our people, who are aware of what the KDP did during the genocide, must not be deceived.”

False promises

The Autonomous Administration stated that the KDP’s claim that it would distribute compensation to Yazidis in Shengal, while it cannot even pay the salaries of its own employees amid the ongoing economic crisis, has no basis in reality. The administration stressed that the public should not believe such promises.

The statement concluded with the following call: “No one should fall for the KDP’s tricks. If this compensation is to be paid, it must be done through the official institutions of the Iraqi state. This process must not be turned into an electoral tool to exploit the Yazidis for political gain.”
