One of the earliest beliefs in history, the Yazidism, was targeted and faced destruction.

Yazidi Kurds have faced extinction. Because if Kurds had been exterminated in Shengal, that would have meant the end of Yazidism everywhere.

There would have been no place for the Yazidis anywhere if Shengal Yazidis had been massacred.

Because if the Yazidis still exist in Europe, Russia, Armenia, Rojava, North Kurdistan and even in South Kurdistan, they owe it to the Yazidis in Shengal.

For this reason, the defense of Shengal carried out by 12 Kurdish guerrillas and the rescue of the Yazidis from genocide meant the defense of Yazidis all over the world.

Hundreds of Yazids were killed in Shengal; thousands of women were kidnapped. Many children were abducted along with women.

DAESH (ISIS) was not the only responsible of this genocide, the massacres and kidnappings.

The KDP, that was the main responsible for the protection of Shengal, also bears a responsibility in the massacres.

Before the arrival of DAESH, the KDP had refused the joint defense proposal made by the PKK that wanted to send its own guerrillas to defend the Yazidis.

Indeed, the KDP also arrested some of the guerrillas who went to Shengal to defend the Yazidis just before the genocidal attack.

The KDP said: “We do not need anyone to defend Shengal’. But in fact they could not even defend Hewler let aside Shengal.

It was the guerrillas who defended Hewlêr as well as Shengal. And there was more, they defended Kirkuk as well. Can it be forgotten who defeated DAESH? The HPG-YJA Star and YPG-YPJ guerrillas were those who stood up to DAESH.

Now these same guerrillas are being attacked by a Turkish State and KDP partnership.

Turkey is not only putting pressure on the KDP. It is also putting pressure on the PUK. But the PUK guerrillas have fought shoulder to shoulder with HPG guerrillas for four years against DAESH. How would they turn on them? They wouldn’t, in fact most peshmergas would not turn against the HPG.

Which is why, for the time being, the KDP is actually providing more intelligence support to the Turkish State, rather than going into war.

The occupation planned by the Turkish State is not welcomed by the people of South Kurdistan. The people of Bradost support the resistance of the guerrillas.

What is the difference between DAESH attack on Shengal and Turkish state attack on Medya Defense Zones?

DAESH wanted to exterminate the Yazidis. The Turkish state thinks that by invading South Kurdistan it will be able to destroy all Kurds, not just the Yazidis.

There is no difference between the attack by DAESH in Shengal and Kobanê and the attacks by the Turkish Republic in Afrin and Medya Defense Zones.

The Turkish state was also behind the DAESH attack in Shengal. DAESH is Iraq’s al-Qaeda. Turkey is known to be associated with al-Qaeda in Iraq.

Shengal made history. Nobody can forget it. For this reason, nothing in Shengal will be like before.

Shengal has been autonomous for several years; Yazidis are self-governing their land.

It is not easy for the Yazidis to keep up their autonomous administration, given that they have the KDP on one side and the Iraqi government on the other.

Yet they have showed the world that the democratic autonomy is possible and it is working.
