As the operation of Turkish troops against Xerzan Martyrs' Cemetery in Olek village of Bitlis continues, soldiers have today opened fire on the people who arrived the scene to act as human shields.

Yesterday morning a large number of Turkish soldiers launched an operation against Xerzan Martyrs' Cemetery located between Bitlis and its Hizan district. While the operation continues, many people have flocked to the area to act as human shields. Early this morning, soldiers opened fire on the human shields, who include HDP Bitlis deputies Mahmut Celadet Gaydalı and Mızgin Irgat and co-mayors from DBP.

One young person has been wounded in the fire after being hit by a bullet in the shoulder.

While sounds of guns are heard from the scene, no healthy information can be received from the scene as internet and phone networks remain cut off in the area.

Human shields yesterday prevented the work machines from entering to the cemetery to destroy it, which have however gone into action action one again this morning in an attempt to reach the area.

In the meantime, wild fire erupted in Xerzan area as a result of the bombardment launched from a helicopter of the Turkish army. An area of around 15 hectare has reportedly burnt in the fire.
