South Kurdistan Government defends Turkish occupation

The speaker of the KRG said he hopes the PKK will leave South Kurdistan.

The Speaker of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Sefîn Dizeyi held a press conference at Hotel Rotana in Hewlêr (Erbil).

Addressing the issue of the occupation of the Bradost carried out by the Turkish state, Dizeyi argued that since the 1980s, the Turkish state has crossed the border due to the presence of the PKK in South Kurdistan.

Dizeyi added that because of the clashes on the border, building in some 300 villages has not been possible.

Almost justifying the occupation, Dizeyi said: "If the PKK forces were not in the border regions, Turkish troops would not come in. I hope the PKK will abandon these zones".

Dizeyi had previously called the Turkish state as a host and the PKK as a foreign force.

The Turkish state crossed the border and occupied areas 26 kilometers inside Iraqi territory and has established many military bases there. Turkish forces enter the villages, preventing the lives of the civilians in the region.

The presence of the Turkish troops in the region is affecting the security of the civilians as much as it is adversely affecting the regional economy.
