With their aerial bombardments and ground shelling, state forces set forests on fire in Lice, Cudi and Siirt.
The forest fire in Lice countryside started by Turkish soldiers continues to spread in between Tepe outpost and the village of Goma Pirê. Since the announcement of the ‘curfew,’ thousands of special operations forces have been setting the region on fire, and preventing civilians from putting out the fire in places such as the village of Sisê. The expanding fire also threatens the villages of Angûl, Derxust and Peşê Kevir.
State forces from the Balveren National Outpost Command initiated a fire on June 24 with their aerial bombardment and ground shelling targeting Mt. Cudi. Several gardens in the region have been destroyed, and the villages of Gilindor, Gundikê Remû, Cifanê and Akêt are threatened by the fire. Hundreds of mine workers are also in grave danger in the outskirts of Mt. Cudi, and access to the threatened villages is limited due to the state forces’ on going shelling of the region.
Lastly, soldiers started a fire near the Geliyê Seyfo valley in Siirt’s Ciwanika (Gökçebağ) region, and units from the Ciwanika Municipality as well as Forestry and Waterworks Directorate have been volunteering to put out the spreading fire.
