Concerns and fears are growing among Turkish state forces in Nusaybin that do not want to participate in ongoing military operations in the face of a continued failure to break the popular resistance led by Civil Defense Units YPS / YPS-JIN. Many members of Turkish forces resort to resignation or suicide, upon which more psychiatrists have been sent to the district for psychological support.
As a seventh curfew remains in place in Mardin's Nusaybin district since March 14, state forces are targeting houses after failing to defeat the resistance for self-rule which endures with determination in response to the high level of techniques used by Turkish forces.
OVER 50 SPECIAL OPERATIONS MEMBERS KILLED
More than 50 members of special operations forces, including at least 2 majors, have died during clashes in the neighborhoods of resistance. 18 members of YPS / YPS-JIN also lost their lives in the fighting.
TURKISH OFFICERS RESORT TO SUICIDE AND RESIGNATION
In the face of the ongoing failure to defeat the Civil Defense Units, state forces now abstain from participating in operations and this disagreement causes a conflict among the mobilized forces of Turkish police and military.
Turkish Chief of Defence Hulusi Akar and a number of force commanders had to visit the district upon a recent conflict between police and military forces. Despite huge efforts, senior executives weren't able to relieve the existing concerns and fears of the Turkish officers. As the conflict gets deeper every day, reports say that as many as 2 thousand members of special operations forces have submitted their resignation recently.
As commanders have yet to obtain concrete results in their efforts to relieve the officers refusing to take part in operations, a number of psychiatrists have been sent to the district to provide psychological support.
MILITARY COUP IN THE DISTRICT
All the local and administrative authorities in the district were recently handed over to the military in the wake of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's instructions for an entire evacuation of the operation zones and demolition of buildings from a distance if necessary.
In the meantime, DIHA reporters Meltem Oktay and Uğur Akgül who are covering the conflict in the district were detained several days ago. Oktay was remanded in custody while Akgül was forced out of the district.
TURKISH FORCES RETREAT AFTER SUFFERING LOSSES
As clashes between YPS / YPS-JIN and Turkish forces continue, armored vehicles deployed around Abdülkadirpaşa neighborhood have targeted civilian houses with artillery and howitzer fire.
Reports are coming through that state forces are suffering losses and retreating from Şirin and Kanarya streets which they tried to enter but faced strong resistance from YPS / YPS-JIN units.
In the meantime, Turkish forces have this morning set fire to many houses and workplaces in the neighborhoods where low-intensity clashes are taking place. All the workplaces on Cumhuriyet Avenue have been burnt down.
On the other hand, Turkish forces have also demolished the graves of fallen civilians and YPS / YPS-JIN members.
