He comes to mind when we hear the names of those who fell on the ground or we find their pictures. Of course, there were many men or women talking to trees or birds, but it was the first time that I encountered a male guerrilla talking to a tree, and that frankly pleased me. The man who speak to nature sounds cleaner, I don't know why. Maybe it is because we believe that nature reminds of values, of the balance in the universe.
Toprak was born the son of a patriotic mother and father in Batman. His name was the best statement of how to walk. It was an order of how to live. His name was the most beautiful symbol of what to turn to, of why he was born. It Toprak (Earth, soil), his name was Toprak. It was like earth, like soil.
A guerrilla's first step towards freedom was not coming to the mountains, but his first revolt against injustice and cruelty. It was the first time he opened his eyes and ear the truth. The story of Toprak did not begin when he reached Kobanê in 2014, and it did not end on the day when he returned to earth on July 10, in the Dûpişk resistance. In between there had been dozens of meanings, dying dozens of times, re-living dozens of times.
He crossed the border and ran to join the Kobanê resistance. Before his feet ran to Kobanê, his heart and brain had already begun to fight in the streets of Kobanê. When the war ended and he wanted to recover from the wounds he suffered on his foot and face and return home, he met his father. His father said: "Don't go anywhere, go to the mountains, if you want to be worthy of us, go to the mountains, don't come back here, that's where you will find your essence." Every mother and father who lived on this land knew this fact, but Toprak's parents did not only know this, they wanted their children to spread this truth in Kurdistan and in freedom.
Guerrilla Reşat travelled to the mountains and met his own land, his essence. His last stop was Heftanin, where the soil was renewed every season, its colour was different, and even after tons of bombings, a small sapling still resisted and become a tree.
"Our blood spilled in the name of freedom is just a drop of water to give life to the tree in the middle of this summer!" Guerrilla Reşat Tımoki fell martyr on July 10 while going on duty with Argeş Sara and Zinar Devrim. He was brave and beautiful every time he lived. Guerrilla Reşat was like soil, like earth.
