Street protests in Southern Kurdistan

In Southern Kurdistan, several thousand people took to the streets in numerous cities and demanded the resignation of the government.

Thousands of people in Sulaymaniyah, Rania, Keladizê, Rewandûz and Kelar, protested Kurdistan Regional Government on Monday.

Demonstrators demanded the resignation of the Kurdistan Regional Government and a transparent and fair election.

The unrest is mainly caused by the economic and political crisis after the independence referendum on September. As Iraqi government started a blockade against Kurdistan, the salaries of clerks and security forces were significantly reduced.

The lack of infrastructure and power shortages are among the reasons of unrest in Southern Kurdistan.
