The women's guerrilla force YJA Star carried out successful actions against the Turkish occupation forces in southern Kurdistan on Saturday. According to the press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG), a female sniper shot and killed an occupier at Xantûr in Heftanîn early Saturday morning. The YJA Star dedicated this action to commander Zelal Sîdem, who fell in Heftanîn a year ago.
In Avaşîn, YJA Star fighters carried out a sabotage operation at 8:50 a.m. against an enemy unit trying to advance from Girê Silêman to Sirtê Navçela. Two occupiers were killed in the action. When the Turkish troops retreated a short distance, a second act of sabotage was carried out, which killed another occupier. The remaining soldiers left their military equipment in the compound and fled. The army transported the dead away by helicopter in the evening.
Fighting at the tunnel in Girê Sor: Drone shot down
In Avaşîn, the invading forces continue to try to capture the guerrillas' underground positions at Girê Sor. On July 24, an advance was thwarted by the guerrillas from close range, and the Turkish occupation forces were forced to withdraw. On the same day, the HPG managed to shoot down a drone in the area.
Today, between 8:40 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., Turkish troops tried to enter the tunnel with explosives and were again repelled. Apparently in revenge, the soldiers set fire to a forest area at Girê Silêman as they retreated.
Attacks by the Turkish army
According to HPG information, various other attacks were carried out by the Turkish army on Saturday. The Xantûr area in Heftanîn was bombarded with artillery shells. As a result, fire broke out and spread to gardens and cultivated areas belonging to the civilian population.
The village of Orê in the Kanî Masî sub-district near Amadiya and the slopes of Şehîd Sîmko hill in the Zap region were bombed by attack helicopters. In Werxelê in Avaşîn, the guerrilla tunnel was attacked with explosives. In Avaşîn, helicopter movements were also observed over Girê Silêman, Girê Spî, Tabura Ereba, Banista and Mervanos areas.
According to the HPG, the guerrillas did not suffer any casualties as a result of the attacks.
