The Crisis Coordination Centre established by the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) to work for solidarity with the earthquake victims and reconstruction after the earthquake with epicentre in Maraş continues its activities in the affected region. The HDP crisis team has started to evaluate the work on the ground with the non-governmental relief workers involved. After Malatya, a meeting was held in Adiyaman on Saturday. As part of the activities carried out by the HDP, the Democratic Society Congress (DTK), non-governmental organisations and volunteers, 20,000 earthquake victims have been assisted in Adiyaman so far. Food, tents and hot meals are being distributed in the severely damaged city.
HDP Deputy Chair Tayip Temel said after the meeting that the aim was to find long-term solutions to people's problems. He stated that the HDP was in the earthquake zone with all its committees and, together with non-governmental organisations and volunteers, was carrying out a relief campaign on the one hand and reconstruction work on the other. In the first days, he said, the main focus was on saving lives, with thousands of volunteers providing effective assistance. "From the first day, we tried to remove both the rubble of the earthquake and the rubble of the government. People came together with the spirit of mobilisation, we started the reconstruction process by healing the wounds," the HDP politician said.
Temel pointed out that Adiyaman had become an abandoned city due to the government's failure to deal with the crisis caused by the earthquake: "This is state policy. The government is turning the disaster into a crisis and encouraging people to emigrate in order to depopulate these areas. People should not leave their homes. This place must preserve its historical consciousness with its memories, memory and culture. Therefore, everyone must mobilise for reconstruction."
Temel continued: "This is about a culture that has lived for millennia despite all kinds of disasters and attacks. We will not allow this culture and history to be buried under the rubble as the government wants. In order to protect and preserve this history and culture, we need to increase solidarity to the point where every family can build a house on their own plot of land. It is solidarity that will rebuild and restore Adıyaman. Aid has decreased compared to the early days. People and especially businessmen who have the means should continue the flow of aid unceasingly. Solidarity must be maintained from Serhat to Marmara, from the Aegean to Amed."
