TEV-DEM said that the Iraqi government’s threats against Shengal served the interests of the Turkish state.
The Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) released a statement condemning the Iraqi government’s threats against Shengal. TEV-DEM urged the Iraqi government to fulfill its moral responsibilities towards the Yazidi community in Shengal and to support the democratic solution project.
"IRAQI GOVERNMENT SERVES THE TURKISH STATE’S INTERESTS"
"The Iraqi government is now targeting Gire Girzk to crush the will and resistance of Shengal people who struggled against terrorism and resisted in place of the international community. The Shengal people also fought on behalf of the Iraqi government which withdrew its forces from Shengal and many other regions," the statement said.
The statement remarked that the Iraqi government wanted to take away the gains of the people of Shengal with military shipments in the region. “Rather than embracing Shengal people’s will and accepting its fundamental rights on a democratic ground, it attacked the region by implementing the 9 October agreement. The Iraqi government serves the interests of the Turkish state and its supporters which may lead to a new massacre against the people of Shengal.
“IRAQ MUST DO ITS DUTY”
The statement added, “The Iraqi government should fulfill its duties towards the Yazidi community in Shengal. They should support Shengal people’s democratic projects which set an example for a solution. Iraqi officials have not responded to negotiation calls. The current situation deepens the crisis in Iraq, only benefiting some regional powers."
