Since mid-March, the Iraqi army has been constructing a 250-kilometre wall between Shengal and North-East Syria. Cubeyr Şêx Silêman, Director of Yazidi Affairs in North and East Syria, spoke to ANHA about the matter.
Cubeyr Şêx Silêman stated that the plots against the Yazidis did not stop and said, "In 2014, the door was opened for ISIS mercenaries to strike Shengal, and many more conspiracies have been followed. The aim of these conspiracies is to massacre and destroy the Yazidi people."
Stating that the attackers and conspirators want a Yazidi-free Shengal, Şêx Silêman said, "They don't want the displaced Yazidis to return to Shengal. They aim to leave Shengal without Yazidis so that they can carry out their plans to besiege Rojava over Shengal."
'THEY DON'T WANT THE CONCEPT OF AUTONOMOUS ADMINISTRATION TO BE STRENGTHENED'
Cubeyr Şêx Silêman stated that the ISIS attack on Shengal was stopped by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, in collaboration with Shengal and its people, and added, "They want to separate two regions so that the idea of autonomous administration does not get stronger in the region."
Silêman remarked that the construction of the wall was a part of the Shengal agreement signed on October 9, 2020 between Turkey, the Kadhimi government and the KDP. He concluded by saying, "The Turkish state is not far from this plan, but the Iraqi government and the KDP are implementing it."
