Members of the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) and PAJK (Party of Free Women in Kurdistan) imprisoned in Turkey went on hunger strike on 27 November in support of the international campaign "Freedom for Öcalan, A Political Solution to the Kurdish Question". The hunger strike, which is on day 46, is carried out in alternating groups from 27 November to 15 February, the anniversary of the international conspiracy against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
Zinarîn Gabar from the Free Women's Troops (YJA Star) spoke to ANF about the importance of the hunger strike action.
"As guerrillas of the YJA Star, we salute the resistance of our imprisoned comrades on hunger strike. This action in the prisons is a mission to our people and to all of us. The culture of prison resistance has deep historical roots that extend to the present day. If we do not understand the importance of these actions, we cannot achieve significant results. As militants of Rêber Apo [Abdullah Öcalan], as militants of this revolution, hunger strikes have a valuable meaning to us. We can respond to the enemy's attacks and carry out our actions with this attitude. The resistance in the mountains of Kurdistan today is an excellent response to the enemy. We are fighting against a tyrant state.
The hunger strike of our comrades gives us strength. Every person with a conscience should be sensitive to such resistance. It has an incredible meaning that the prisoners carry out such an action despite the torture they suffer. We believe that the action initiated by them will lead to a result. Our aim is also to make this action a success. Our struggle must take place at the level of the liberating Rêber Apo. The resistance in the mountains and prisons will achieve Rêber Apo's physical freedom. This resistance will grow from day to day. Those who are resisting in the dungeons and fighting in the mountains of Kurdistan today draw strength from the resistance legacy of Comrade Hayri, Comrade Kemal, Comrade Ali and Comrade Akif. These friends were subjected to the greatest torture in Amed prison, but they have rewritten the history of the Kurdish people with their stance and resistance. Our people have never surrendered to the enemy and have continued this culture of resistance to this day.
Today, as in the past, the Kurdish people are experiencing many betrayals. In particular, the current betrayal by the Barzani family is neither new nor unusual. Throughout history, the Barzani family has repeatedly collaborated with the enemy for their own interests and betrayed the Kurdish people. This hunger strike is an action to strengthen the struggle against all kinds of attacks and betrayals and to achieve success and goals. We will continue our struggle against the enemy until our last breath."
