The Turkish army's invasion of southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) continues to meet fierce resistance from the guerrillas entrenched in the mountainous Medya Defense Zones. Despite massive use of chemical warfare agents and almost continuous air and ground attacks, guerrillas from the People's Defense Forces (HPG) and the Free Women's Associations (YJA Star) repeatedly succeed in making the occupation attacks come to nothing through effective actions such as infiltration of Turkish military positions, the use of snipers and multi-front attacks. At least thirteen soldiers have been killed in the latest guerrilla actions in Avaşîn, Metîna, according to the daily statement published by the HPG press office.
Last night, YJA Star (Free Women’s Troops) snipers in the Karker resistance area near Avaşîn went after a military unit that was moving around a guerrilla tunnel system. Two of the soldiers were shot dead.
The Turkish army suffered at least ten casualties in its ranks as a result of various guerrilla actions on Saturday (June 4). The details of the actions are as follows:
At Girê Cûdî, guerrillas infiltrated a Turkish military position, killing two soldiers. An attack helicopter over the hill also came under massive fire and was damaged.
At Girê FM, guerrillas laid an ambush and struck the Turkish troops that sought to advance toward the guerrilla positions, killing two soldiers.
In another action, guerrillas hit the Turkish forces attempting to plant explosive charges in the guerrillas’ positions, killing one soldier.
Later in the day, guerrillas struck the Turkish forces with a two-front assault, completely destroying one military position, killing four soldiers and injuring one other.
A targeted action left another soldier dead at Girê FM.
In Avaşîn, an advance attempt on the Çemço area was repelled on Friday, and one soldier was killed.
In Metîna, the guerrillas targeted an attack helicopter and an attack helicopter on Saturday. An explosion occurred on the Sikorsky helicopter as a result of the shelling. A Turkish Air Force drone laden with explosives was shot down in Şikefta Birîndara in Zap on May 28.
HPG highlighted in the balance that the Turkish army's air and ground attacks on South Kurdistan continue unabated. In addition to hundreds of attacks with howitzers carried out from outposts on the border with Zap, Metîna and Avaşîn on Saturday, HPG recorded at least 28 air strikes against guerrilla and civilian areas in these regions. During the same period, 27 chemical agent attacks were recorded. In Çemço, bombardments ignited a severe forest fire. The fire has not yet been extinguished and is spreading uncontrollably.
