The Turkish army's invasion attempt on Zap region at the border of Hakkari's Çukurca district is being repelled with the counter actions of guerrilla forces. Forced to withdraw from Zap region with heavy blows inflicted in guerrilla actions, Turkish soldiers fell into an ambush of guerrillas in the evening of June 19th.
ANF reporter Rêger Azad who is following the conflict in the region provided the following information:
The Turkish soldiers that were forced to retreat from the border line were ambushed on Çukurca-Hakkari road on June 19th evening. As guerrillas hit Turkish soldiers with B-7 and automatic weapons, two armored vehicles were destroyed in ensuing clashes.
Following the ambush action of guerrillas, some of the military vehicles in the convoy had to return to Çukurca and those heading towards Hakkari fell into another ambush of guerrillas in Qasrike region. One other armored vehicle was destroyed here.
During the action, clash erupted between guerrillas and Turkish army's secret units stationed in the area. Turkish army conducted aerial bombardment on Katoba region during the clashes.
Following the ambush action of guerrillas, Turkish army closed the Çukurca-Hakkari road to traffic and retrieved the dead and wounded soldiers with military vehicles.
20 soldiers were killed and 3 armored vehicles were destroyed in the actions and clashes here.
