The Tigris River is getting more and more polluted every day.
Especially during the summer garbage accumulated on the shore contribute to the pollution as well as the ugly picture and bad smell.
Not only sewage wastes, but also sand quarries on the river are damaging. The Tigris river which was the subject of many fairy tales and legends, many fish species living in its water once are now extinct.
Despite the park and seating areas along the river, the people see this problem and see that the necessary measures are not taken.
People want to clean the river where bad smell are spreading due to sewage and waste. The river, which did not flow as clean and healthy as it used to be, was seriously damaged by the dams and ponds.
A citizen from Cizre, Abdulhamit Çancı stated that this pollution has increased even more in recent years, and yet neither the municipalities nor the Provincial Directorate of Environment has carried out a proper study to address this issue.
“The socialization area of people is represented by the shores of this river. People are coming here for a picnic or to relax. Waste water pollutes the environment. The history of the Tigris should be taken into consideration and should be urgently addressed.”
The citizen added: “Many times we have written petitions to the relevant authorities, but they have ignored us. There is a treatment facility near there, or they should open a new facility. Everyone is disturbed by this smell. We expect the new municipality to find a solution to waste water.”
