The "Pêşî Peya/Pedestrian First" warnings written by municipalities governed by the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) in Kurdish became the target of anti-Kurdish policies.

This racist approach towards the Kurdish language came after attacks on Kurdish music and halay.

According to the information received, teams affiliated with the General Directorate of Highways (KGM) came to Diyarbakır Street in Batman (Êlih) with numerous police officers at night, painting over the traffic warnings in Kurdish with gray paint.

These attacks on Kurdish traffic warnings had started in Van (Wan). The traffic warnings were deleted, and racist writings were written on them.

Warnings in Kurdish rewritten 

Later, in Amed, the Kurdish warning signs were also painted over by the General Directorate of Highways,  teams escorted by the police upon the governor's instructions. And a similar action occurred in Dargeçit (Kerboran).

The warning in Kurdish "Pêşî Peya/Pedestrian First" and "Hêdî/Slowly" on many streets of Amed were rewritten by the municipality.

Dargeçit co-mayors condemn targeting of writings in Kurdish

Dargeçit Municipality co-mayors Asya Gezer and Aziz Ramazan Akın strongly condemned the deletion of the writings in a written statement, saying: "We strongly condemn the attack on the Kurdish language. The 'Pêşî Peya (Pedestrian First)' warnings we wrote in Kurdish to prevent accidents in Kerboran were subjected to racist attacks."

"We strongly condemn this attack. In line with the wishes of our people, we will speak Kurdish in our municipality, in our shops, in our markets, in our homes, in our parks, in our streets and neighborhoods, inside and outside Kerboran, and in our villages. We promised to work for Kerboran."
