Trustee at Şırnak Municipality not paying salaries for the workers

The trustee appointed to the Şırnak Municipality is not paying the workers’ salaries citing the excuse that they “didn’t work during the curfew”.

Workers in the subcontractor firm in the Şırnak Municipality haven’t been getting paid since the trustee appointment. 130 workers haven’t been paid because they “didn’t work during the curfew”, while the labour legislation is in favor of the workers.

Union representatives say the curfew doesn’t affect the workers’ payments and that the appointed trustee is raising difficulties.

“HOW WOULD WE WORK DURING THE CURFEW?”

Workers spoke to ANF and said they were curious on how they would work during the curfew in Şırnak: “They declare a curfew and then ask us why we didn’t work. They want to fire us and hire families of the village guards. Legally there are no problems in us receiving our salaries because the labor legislation says we are in the right. We can’t get paid because the company hasn’t been paid. Whatever happens, we won’t let them have the municipality or our salaries.”
